Since 2004, Mexicans at Miss Universe had been faring well but despite of semifinals and runners-up positions, the crown remains elusive. Now, with Karla Carrillo as its representative, Mexico is in an all-out offensive mood towards the crown that was last won in 1991. Karla looks like a perfect delegate. She’s glamorous, elegant and down-right sexy. At this stage, she could easily be the next titleholder. So, get to know Karla in our exclusive interview. You’ll never know you’re actually getting familiar with the Miss Universe 2009!
I joined because I think that Nuestra Belleza is a serious organization that helps girls to have a force and to be able to represent the Mexican community in an international way. I think it is time to show the world that Mexican women have the capacity to represent universal beauty in an integral way.
If I am to become Miss Universe 2009, the first thing that I will do is to show young people throughout the world that the best gift they can acquire is education which is a lifetime process that involves knowledge and abilities to enrich lives. Our acts, our words, and our thoughts are reflective of the education that we have been provided. It is very important to fight and reach our objectives without losing our values and principles.
The most unique thing that has happened to me is the experience that I’m living right now which is having the opportunity to represent such a beautiful, culturally rich and very diverse country like México. This is the biggest responsibility I have had in my entire life. It makes me very happy because I now have this opportunity that is not easily given to anyone. They saw something special in me because this is not only about beauty but also about intelligence and attitude.
No, I don’t believe that swimsuit contest degrades women. It is because swimsuit contests can show us that besides having a good body, beauty is integral. We can show that it is very important to respect and take care of our body and as a consequence we can be in a good shape.
My national costume is named “Charrería Mexicana” and was designed by Juan Castaños. As its name says, this costume represents the “Charrería” which is one of the most symbolic style of rodeo developed by people in México interested in keeping the traditions of the charro alive.
1.) My interior beauty through love, humility, good attitude and sincerity.
2.) A little Mexican flag so I can put it in my room and each time I see it, I will think of my whole country and on all the people that I’m representing and that are expecting the best of me.
3.) And of course, the picture of my family because thanks to them I can be where I am now! They are very supportive in every moment and they gave me all the tools that I needed to be the person that I am today.
Jimmy Choo
My favorite color is green, because I think green represents life. Green is also the color of balance and means learning, growth and harmony.
I think Barack Obama is a wonderful example of what a person can do if he is completely decided and focused on reaching his objective. He is an example of hardwork, intelligence and perseverance. He represents change and hope for a better future.
Thank you for your generous support, energy and time. I’m sure that through this interview, you can get to know me better. A big hug from me for all of you.
