In-depth Review: VIETNAM, VO HOANG YEN

The Performance Art Agency has agreed to allow supermodel Vo Hoang Yen to be Vietnam’s representative at Miss Universe 2009 to be held in Paradise Island, Bahamas on August 23. Vo Hoang Yen is the new face of Vietnam’s fashion industry. The 21-year-old model (1.79m, 90-62-92) has previously won the gold prize at Vietnam Supermodel 2008 and placed first runner-up in Miss Universe Vietnam 2008.

Let me start this review by saying that “HY” is simply one of the fiercest contestants that will be gracing the Miss Universe competition. The first time I saw this girl in a youtube video, I was blown away! She just got me on the floor gasping for air! This girl definitely must be doing her homework! She just floats gracefully on the catwalk exuding both confidence and technique in every step. No wonder she has generated buzz among fans, missosologists, pageant experts and bashers, also including Japan’s director Ines Ligron who said that the Vietnamese representative for Miss Universe 2009 Vo Hoang Yen owns a “special kind of beauty,” and also commenting that she reminds her of entrants in Miss Tiffany transsexual beauty pageant in Thailand!

Feeling a tad nervous Ines?!

PRESENTATION - Rating: 9.15
Hoang Yen presents herself as a modern yet traditional girl with a youthful look and ferocious attitude on stage! She seems demure and poised whenever she talks (As I don't understand a dime of what she’s saying, the judges either) I think she's gonna give a heck of a fight and her presence is going to be a breeze of fresh air to many! Many mouths in Bahamas would laud her modeling skills. The entire world is waiting for this fierce warrior princess to be shipped overseas!

FACE - Rating: 8.80
With a small V-shaped face, fresh and young-looking Vo Hoang doesn't scream "beautiful" or "stunning" to me. The word "pretty" seems to be more fitting to her. My best recommendation for this girl is to try to look as much as the photo above as she can- minimal make up, some sparkle on the face and a clean sleek hairstyle will do! She needs to capitalize on her youthful looks & make her rivals look like Margaret Thatcher! Simply let the catwalk do the rest of the job!

BODY- Rating: 8.70
Without a doubt THE most bashed and criticized aspect of Vo Hoang has to be her body. The infamous picture of hers where she was donning a red bikini at the beach has been floating around in forums and has stirred outrage between her lovers and haters. Hoang has made some progress from the time being though she still needs more toning on her thin figure, specially her legs. The good news for Vietnam is that she has the ability to glide onstage with sleek projections and movements. Since swimsuit is her waterloo, it could be compensated with good catwalk that would possibly let her survive the swimsuit competition!

CATWALK SKILLS - Rating: 9.90
I would gladly change Vo's name to "Von Ferroccciiaaa Hoang Potenta!!" I mean, how can I start reviewing this girl's catwalk skills, she's simply letting the children have it! Her catwalk is ''TO DIE FOR!" I loooove her movement and attitude in sooo many levels. First she walks with such ease and her flow of movements is superrrrrrrbbbb!! She connects with you when she walks and she also comes to a point of intimidation! She exudes energy and confidence with a very intense seductive stare. I became an instant HY fan when I first saw her in action- she got me crawling on broken glass!! OMG JUST KILL ME!!

NINA RECOMMENDS
My primary recommendation for Vietnam is to guard their bet’s claws a little bit while in the Bahamas and come preliminaries- she’ll BOOM! Remember there's gonna be plenty of copycats out there looking for techniques. If they are able to complete their lists of do's and don’ts before the pageant, Vietnam is going to be one of the girls to look out for in terms of catwalks skills, so she has to be a little bit cautious not to give too many demonstrations out there! Overall Vo Hoang needs some fresh light make up, youthful looking hairstyle, bubbly attitude and a beautiful flying gown that allows her to rock the stage and presto- she’ll be the strongest contestant from Asia in the battle! This year, Vietnam emerges as a double threat. HY is highly qualified to potentially catapult her country as one of the future powerhouses of beauty from Asia. Remember, it’s all about momentum and skill! Good luck Vietnam!!

DAYS GONE BY...
Miss Universe 2008, the 57th Miss Universe pageant, was held at the Crown Convention Center in the Diamond Bay Resort, Nha Trang, Vietnam on July 14, 2008. Dayana Mendoza, Miss Venezuela, was crowned Miss Universe 2008 by outgoing titleholder Riyo Mori of Japan. An audience of 7,500 saw beautiful eighty contestants during the actual pageant and nearly a billion television viewers worldwide watched it live. This was the first major US-based television production to take place in Vietnam since the end of the Vietnam War. This is also the first time that the Miss Universe pageant was broadcast in 1080i High-definition. And this pageant was held in a contemporary Communist state for the first time in history. Thuy Lam, last year’s host delegate became the first Vietnamese candidate to survive the first cut of the Miss Universe pageant.
