COLOMBIA, MICHELLE ROULLIARD by Nina Cleopatra
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Ahhhh Colombia! Land of the "Cumbia", "Ballenato" and of course: Beautiful girls! Colombia has always been a legendary powerhouse of beauties in Latin America, and maybe they don't have as many crowns as their neighbor country Venezuela, but the Colombian girls have always been considered a threat to rivals and a force to reckon with, specially because they tend to accumulate some huge dividends at the interview segment of the prelims. I believe the biggest misconception about Colombians may be that they are somewhat demure and reserved- totally not true! They’re happy party animals that would celebrate even the smallest event! If there's cumbia or salsa hitting somewhere, you'll surely find a Colombian dancing there!
Hail to the new Colombian queen! Michelle Rouillard (born October 28, 1986), a student representing Cauca Department, was crowned Miss Colombia 2008 during a ceremony televised live to the whole country at the Julio Cesar Turbay auditorium in Cartagena. In the
evening
gown
competition and swimsuit competition Michelle obtained 9.8 and 9.8 respectively. Michelle, a student of international business at Concord University in Canada, stands 1.75 m tall. She also speaks three languages: Spanish, English and French. Her measurements are 92-62-92, with green eyes, light brown hair and fair skin, and will represent Colombia at the Miss Universe 2009 contest in August.
"Yes, I'm cutting my hair... So
Whaaat!?"
My first impression of this girl was WOW!! She reminds me of a Victoria's Secret Model. She has the looks of a classic angelic-faced beauty queen that is very classy and poised. To my surprise- all of the sudden she cuts her hair off! I have to admit I was extremely shocked! Apparently it was a decision she made
on
her own, showing how determined and maybe a strong-headed contestant she
appears
to be! At first I was totally frustrated considering plenty of reasons that having short hair in a pageant is a double edge sword- it might or might not work for you. It is not appealing to everybody and is twice as hard to work it onstage. You can't wave it or stroke it with your hand to make some sexy fierce moves. It lacks movement and can make you look older. Colombians in the pageant circuit disapproved of Michelle’s move. But in one of her interviews, she said, "the more people criticize me, the more I'd go against them" and then laughed about it. She also said that she likes change and she was not too fond of her long hair (which by the way were extensions)
despite
of
being
advised that a beauty queen or a participant of a pageant fares well with longer hair. She also exclaimed that she is not focusing on the Miss Universe pageant but rather on charity work. Later I learned that her stylists are going for the edgier razor blade sleek
hairstyle, which I think would suit her well! Still I believe she had better chances with her long wavy hair.
PRESENTATION - Rating:
9.25
Michelle is a chic young woman, and this trait doesn't come in any way as a surprise to me since it is a very usual feature of Colombian contestants. She's very talkative and sophisticated which I'm sure is going to be very appealing and pleasant for most of the judges. She knows a lot about her country, her culture and she can easily and fluently speak of any topic. Michelle’s most striking feature is that she honors her last name well: "Roulliard." This girl looks like she was taken from the Parisian streets! She looks totally French, making her a true example of
Colombian diversity! I think overall Michelle is gonna do well at the interview section of the preliminaries. For that reason, I'm giving her a higher presentation score!

FACE - Rating:
9.00
Beautiful! Soft angelic face, sad puppy eyes, very elegant looking face. I just have a little bit of trouble with the tip of her nose and with the fact that sometimes she might look a little bit older than she really is!
BODY- Rating:
8.80
I have to say that this is most definitely the part were she falls a little bit- her body is just ok, she doesn't seem like she's the girl that loves to hit the gym often. Although she presents it quite well, her body doesn't stand out to me at all. She def needs to tone down that body! I will love to see some obliques at final night from her and shed down that little baby fat
around her tummy. Body-wise she's standing at the fence at this moment, not standing out of the pack nor fading away in the background.
CATWALK SKILLS - Rating:
8.85
Although she does not have the best catwalk out of the batch of girls this year, in the case of Miss Colombia, it’s always
about from the neck up. She is at constant control of her face and she's pretty aware of the surroundings and the cameras. She's always connecting with the
screen
though
she still needs to focus more on her entire body.
She tends to be all over the place like some sort of flash. Her strides are swift but not lethargic, so it doesn't get to the boring
point.
She
also
needs to work some more on her snaps and turns. I believe that her hairstyle will have a direct impact on the way she's gonna be walking at pageant night. A sleeker, sexy, modern,& sophisticated walk is what she needs!
NINA
RECOMMENDS Michelle is overall a well-balanced candidate that has strong and not so strong points. I believe
her
chances
of
penetrating
the
semis
lie solely on her hands. She needs to believe in herself, she needs to really have a desire to grab the crown, to grab destiny in her hands! Thinking that winning the crown should not be her first priority is not the most effective mindset before jumping into this pageant. She definitely needs to polish that catwalk, hit the gym every single day, have a good diet and I would love to see her hair a little bit more on the blondish side. Her hairstyle? A sleek wet look. We all know that the Miss Universe Crown is for the girl that really wants it, the girl that's ready to fight for her dreams and goal. You can't expect the crown to fly and stop on your head. You have to fight to gain the right! After all, not every girl is born with the name
Oxana!!

Colombia's latest
feat
is
Taliana Vargas who almost gave them the
crown
last
year.
She was an instant

the
final night, showing great catwalk skills, poise and
charm!!
Taliana's extravagant gown, also known by her bashers as "The Flying Roach!" left many broken dreams and rivals clapping in despair!
