In a few hours from now, a new set of beauties will be chosen to represent our country at international pageants. A lot of fans are of course disappointed by the “last minute” exclusion of Sandra Inez Seifert a.k.a. candidate number 13. It looks like that the bad luck associated with the number strikes again. Shunned in building floors and airplane seats, the number 13 is interestingly the number of Kristina Kots-Gotlib when she competed for Miss Ukraine-Universe contest! C’est la vie, the French would say. There is no choice but for us to move on. In fairness with the Bb. Pilipinas Organization, they have all the rights in booting Sandra out. They need to be consistent for so many girls were barred from joining the pageant for posing sexy in some men’s magazine. For many of us however, we see no distinction between posing in swimsuit in some centerpage of a magazine and wearing swimsuit in some public places like Gateway Mall. But digging deeper, posing in men’s magazine requires payment; swimsuit activities in Bb. Pilipinas meant there is no financial reward. The latter can be called as a “charity event” for the pageant is, by law, a charity organization. Moving on to the finals night, our fearless predictions state that the big winner will be (drumroll please) Marie Ann Umali. Obviously she’s not photogenic but in person wow she is a sight to behold. Flawless, fierce and well experienced (she was once a contestant at Bb. Pilipinas), Umali is great for Miss Universe. She has also distinct features, something that we need at Miss Universe 2009 for you have to be something pleasantly different to get noticed there. And then we have Carisheila May Kuijpers – the girl with cutest face in the pageant. She’s great for Miss World. Sweet faces – save us from Tatana Kucharova – are in at Miss World. You don’t have to be very tall or very intelligent. You just have to be sweet and caring and well, being athletic gets some points. Carisheila also got good British background just like Miss World. For the Philippines to sustain its power at Miss International, Diana Arevalo should be our candidate to that pageant. She’s got something like a “classic look”, someone with a class. She will surely turn heads and will definitely get noticed in a pageant that emphasizes physical beauty more than anything else. First runner-up could be Jaysel Arrozal. She could easily win any of the crowns and she looks great. We figured Sandra Inez Seifert could be a great 2nd runner-up and now although that she is disqualified – unjustly so, as many has claimed – we still insist she is a great second runner-up (that’s why we did bother to change the banner). Reality check however, we will settle for a another beautiful lady and she’s Melody Gersbach. Completing this forecast are:
