Not Mixing It Up

Miss International is
stubborn enough to stick with its narrative and predictably so, another Spanish
speaking contestant won the crown. This makes the crown being passed from one mujer to another mujer in six straight years. The good news is, this is Ecuador’s
first and only Big 4 crown. Yey!
It is true that Miss
International should look at beauty in a more modern and global approach but
there is no denying that Miss Ecuador Maria Fernanda Cornejo is a worthy
winner. She received the award akin to Miss World’s Beach Beauty. She may be Ecuador’s 2nd runner-up but she is one of the most sought after
models in her country.
Meanwhile, the first
runner-up Miss Venezuela Jessica Barboza is actually the leading delegate but
it would be a first in Miss International history if she won. No country has
ever won back to back at the pageant!
Some of the
complaints: Miss Zimbabwe Lisa Morgan won the Miss Expressive award yet she
failed to make it to semis. By comparison, the same award was won by Miss
Philippines last year, yet she made the cut.
Miss International
should stop having Miss Hawaii as the islands are an integral part of United
States. Interestingly, the reps of Hawaii for all these years happen to be of
Japanese descent. Japan must be reminded that they may have won the battle in
Pearl Harbor but they lost the war overall.
Some of the positive
stuff: Seeing Miss Trinidad and Tobago Renee Bhagwandeen in the semis is great.
At least no one can point fingers at the pageant and play the race card.
Tanzania and South Africa should be in the semis but T&T is enough.
Philippines once
again flexed its voting muscle and without such, Diane Necio wouldn’t probably
have made it to the semis. Since, she is the winner of the internet votes, she
automatically gets the People’s Choice Award for Miss International 2011.
In overall, Miss
International chose the right winner but it would have been great if the
pageant chose someone, say from African or Asian region (excluding Philippines
and Lebanon). Crowning Miss Trinidad and Tobago for example may have
revolutionized everything in the pageant and perhaps the interest in the
contest will soar high.
Do you think the
results of Miss International 2011 are okay? Do you think Miss Ecuador truly
deserves to win? Which country should the next Miss International come from?
