Best and Worst of Miss International 2011

Best and Worst in National Costume

The Best in National Costume is Miss Paraguay Stephanie Vázquez (photo copyright of Miss International. For more info visit www.miss-international.org). This might look like a simple cut yet the attention to details is exquisite, the colors are just mesmerizing and its relevance to the Paraguayan culture is very much visible.

Worst in National Costume is Miss Denmark Monica Kristensen (photo by Miss International Organization. For more info visit www.miss-international.org). This costume is so simple this could just be your any day regular wardrobe. The only significant sign that this costume is Danish is that flag that Monica is holding.

Best and Worst in Evening Gown

Best in Evening Gown is Miss Venezuela Jesscia Barboza (photo by OPMBWorldwide. For more info visit www.opmbworldwide.com) This gold creation is just heavenly, with intricate appliqués that are harmonious and easy to the eyes. The cut is just lovely hugging the great figure of Jessica. One can be at loss with words describing this whole golden outfit truly fit for a queen.

Color mismatch, tacky design and a pair of horrible shoes all contributed to the downfall of Miss Denmark Monica Kristensen's gown. This is the Worst Gown at Miss International 2011 and having won the Worst in National Costume award as well, the designer of Monica's wardrobe should be blacklisted immediately.  (photo by OPMBWorldwide. Best and Worst in Swimsuits

Oh yes, the eventual winner, Miss Ecuador Ma. Fernanda Cornejo is the Best in Swimsuit indeed. She has a magical aura and look at those curves! (photo by Miss International Organization. For more info visit www.miss-international.org)

The Worst in Swimsuit is Miss Italy Anthea Lucà. It is not so much the body but it is the hair and her overall aura. It makes you think that is competing for Miss International Queen Pageant. (photo by Miss International Organization. For more info visit www.miss-international.org)

Not Mixing It Up

(in photo) Miss International 2011 Fernanda Cornejo

Miss International is stubborn enough to stick with its narrative and predictably so, another Spanish speaking contestant won the crown. This makes the crown being passed from one mujer to another mujer in six straight years. The good news is, this is Ecuador’s first and only Big 4 crown. Yey!

It is true that Miss International should look at beauty in a more modern and global approach but there is no denying that Miss Ecuador Maria Fernanda Cornejo is a worthy winner. She received the award akin to Miss World’s Beach Beauty. She may be Ecuador’s 2nd runner-up but she is one of the most sought after models in her country.

Meanwhile, the first runner-up Miss Venezuela Jessica Barboza is actually the leading delegate but it would be a first in Miss International history if she won. No country has ever won back to back at the pageant!

Some of the complaints: Miss Zimbabwe Lisa Morgan won the Miss Expressive award yet she failed to make it to semis. By comparison, the same award was won by Miss Philippines last year, yet she made the cut.

Miss International should stop having Miss Hawaii as the islands are an integral part of United States. Interestingly, the reps of Hawaii for all these years happen to be of Japanese descent. Japan must be reminded that they may have won the battle in Pearl Harbor but they lost the war overall.

Some of the positive stuff: Seeing Miss Trinidad and Tobago Renee Bhagwandeen in the semis is great. At least no one can point fingers at the pageant and play the race card. Tanzania and South Africa should be in the semis but T&T is enough.

Philippines once again flexed its voting muscle and without such, Diane Necio wouldn’t probably have made it to the semis. Since, she is the winner of the internet votes, she automatically gets the People’s Choice Award for Miss International 2011.

In overall, Miss International chose the right winner but it would have been great if the pageant chose someone, say from African or Asian region (excluding Philippines and Lebanon). Crowning Miss Trinidad and Tobago for example may have revolutionized everything in the pageant and perhaps the interest in the contest will soar high.

Do you think the results of Miss International 2011 are okay? Do you think Miss Ecuador truly deserves to win? Which country should the next Miss International come from?
