The Miss Namibia Pageant 2012 was launched in the capital on Wednesday. Since the victory of Michelle Mclean, Namibia is yet to celebrate another Miss Universe. Well in fact Namibia is declining at the pageant. Here's last week's press release that sends a powerful message that the Miss Namibia pageant and its quest for a second Miss Universe crown is still alive - and kicking.

WINDHOEK - The search for the country’s next beauty queen has begun with the launch of the Miss Namibia pageant last Wednesday.

The 32nd Miss Namibia pageant will take place on August, 4. The launch was attended mainly by sponsors and media representatives where reigning Miss Namibia, Luzaan Van Wyk announced this year’s confirmed sponsors for the prestigious event.

She also announced that the search for Miss Namibia 2012 has begun.

“Today marks an exciting moment for the whole nation, because the search has again begun for the most beautiful young woman in Namibia. A role model with attitude and commitment, who will be an ambassador not only for our country, but at international pageants as well,” she said.

Van Wyk described her year of reign as a “remarkable journey” that changed her life.

“I represented Namibia at the 60th Miss World pageant in London and have been involved in numerous initiatives in Namibia. These will be shown as part of my farewell audiovisual presentation during the event,” she said.

The search for the ‘Women of Excellence’ has also begun. The ‘Women of Excellence’ campaign was launched in 2007. Contributions of women who have excelled where specific communities need their support is recognised through the campaign.

Miss Namibia 2012 will work closely with the ‘Women of Excellence’ nominees.

“So many Namibian women contribute to uplifting the needy in our communities, but sadly their dedication and unselfish commitment often goes unnoticed. As Namibians, we are all now being requested to nominate such special women who have made contributions towards the alleviation of poverty in our communities,” said Auriel Aweries, Advertising Manager at Standard Bank.

Entry forms for the ‘Women of Excellence’ campaign can be downloaded from the Miss Namibia website, www.missnamibia.com.na or at Standard Bank branches countrywide. Entry forms for Miss Namibia 2012 can also be obtained from the Miss Namibia website.

This sexy twist on a kebaya that is so Indonesian with all the ornate applique. This is a standard costume at Puteri Indonesia but with her dark skin tone and elegance, Leila stood out from the list of former Misses Universe who attended the pageant and donned similar costumes.

Well so much for the complaints that the beautiful Leila Lopes has most boring reign ever. Eat your hearts out haters but this African barbie doll could turn out to be the Miss Universe who had attended the most national pageants. And it is not only because her reign is set to be the longest. It seems Miss Universe is now all fired up. After an opinion piece about her boring reign came out, the lovely Leila seems to be going places - in national pageants where normally you don't see a reigning Miss Universe.

The subtleness of how African culture is depicted on patterns at the top of Leila costume that invokes animal prints is commendable. The quasi and what it seemed lengthened ala-ballerina skirts can divide opinions but the faux jewels all over made the piece elegant.

Indonesia and her native Angola was an SOP but she did grace the Gabonaise event and now Leila is visiting Dominican Republic and then Bahamas. Are we seeing exciting times ahead? Let's hope so because skipping Miss Russia is a huge mistake even if the excuse that she is booked somewhere else is legit. NO ONE should skip Miss Russia - that's the rule. But what Leila is missing in "quality" she is poised to compensate with "quantity". If she follows that trajectory, she might as well be hailed as the most famous Miss Universe. And oh, isn't it great to track down her wardrobes every coronation night?

And Leila should be in places where she is needed most. The national pageant of Jamaica is a must see for it is under new management and Leila could relate with the black beauties of the Caribbean nation. Expect to see her at Miss Universe Thailand 2012 contest where a new set up is in place. Finger's crossed she will be invited at I Am She just to counterbalance Ivian's appearance at Femina Miss India and Leila should set her eyes on China - a huge, untapped market ready for exploitation.

This violet dress of Leila is a bit of a risqué. The avant-garde character of the gown by pageantry standards could be disastrous if someone else either than Leila is wearing it

Going places, meeting people, showing up in great outfits...Leila should do something to stop the fans - and herself - from getting boring and perhaps in the process, she will become the most travelled and well publicized Miss Universe ever.

Leila went simple when she crowned her successor in Angola. But the belt and a shower of gems all over made it elegant.

Is the Reign of Leila Lopes Really Boring?

 

There is no denying that many Miss Universe fans are complaining that the reign of Leila seems to be the most boring one in recent memory. How come they felt this way? Above all else, are these complaints with basis or it is merely a form of sourgraping? Here we analyze each reason supporting that the notion that Leila's reign is indeed a boring one (yawn).

Leila Lopes is Boring

1.) No drama, non fama. Dramatics especially theatrical ones drive news for celebrities. To cite a few, Dayana's Guantanamo Bay comment, Zuleyka's candid shots, Ximena's India escapade, Stefania's rigged victory. These what makes a celebrity to be in the spotlight and Leila is bereft of any controversies that enables people to talk about her. Not even her alleged fake nationality or wardrobe malfunction or her "warmongering" photos in Germany raised two eyebrows.

2.) A big shoe to fill in. Leila's predecessor, Ximena Navarrete left an impression of a bon vivant, exciting, globe trotting beauty queen. Ximena was in Thailand to crown the new Miss Thailand Universe, in Puteri Indonesia and in Miss Russia. With Leila, yes she was in Indonesia but was not even invited in Miss Russia pageant. Instead Miss Russia opted for Miss World Ivian Sarcos.

3.) The looooong wait. What makes Leila's reign even more boring is that she will be the pageant's longest reigning beauty queen. She was crowned in September 12, 2011 and she will be giving up her crown in December, 2012. The wide gap could not sustain the enthusiasm of the pageant fanatics whose instincts are to anticipate a new winner with a maximum wait of 365 days.

4.) That boring personality. Yes, what Miss France Laury Thilleman said is true. Just watch the videos of Leila and you will see how boring her personality is. She has a monotonous voice that lacks the sing-songy accent that one might expect from a Portuguese speaker. She's regal, gorgeous and very royal but she is unable to connect and lacks charisma and rapport. Judge for yourself on the video below.

So with these reasons, do you think Leila Lopes' reign is the most boring one in the entire history of Miss Universe?
