Meet Miss Universe Spain 2012 Andrea Huisgen

Andrea Huisgen's elegant looks and the opulent movements all mask her innate humility and compassion. She is a woman who could be mistaken for royalty yet she exudes those down to earth qualities like love for the countryside and making sure she have time for family despite her hectic schedule.

Spain had been on and off the Miss Universe semis recently but as revealed by Andrea, things are changing now at Miss España pageant. Here she is, Missosology's Miss Universe 2012 Hot Picks Week 1 front runner Andrea Huisgen of Spain!

1.) Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know about you.

I think you know everything about me [laughs]. Most of the people don’t know I practice horse riding since I was 6. I love horses and currently I drive out to a town where I can relax and practice. It helps me forget all the pressure of the pageant and feel very free.

2.) What are your preparations for the upcoming Miss Universe 2012 pageant?

I am being trained by a Venezuelan trainer. He runs a pageant blog and he is figuring out the plan to follow. I know it will include gym, make up classes, hair styling, catwalk, public speaking, acting, dancing, English classes and two or three surprises. I want to be very ready for the pageant. I am a very competitive; I will do my best to win.

3.) In your opinion why is it that Spain failed to make it to the semifinals of Miss Universe since 2008?

I don´t know. It is very difficult to know what the judges are looking for. They are beautiful [former Misses Spain]. Maybe it is a matter of luck.

4.) In what way will you put back Spain in the Miss Universe map once again?

I am doing everything in a different way. I started my preparations since the very first moment I won the crown of Miss Spain. No rests, no holidays. I have a huge team and we are doing everything with a lot of energy to compete face to face with countries with longer tradition of preparing candidates at Miss Universe.

5.) What do you do for fun?

As I told you I go horse riding once a month and do normal things. Gym, movies, and beach during the summer. I love spending time with my friends.

6.) Describe your normal Sunday.

First gym. Then I have breakfast with my mom. It is our time to be together. Then it would depend on the time of the year. During summer I go to the beach very often. I also love playing tennis with my best friend. But honestly I haven’t had one of these Sundays for a long time! [laughs]

7.) What's inside your bag right now?

Lipstick, wallet, cleanex, free newspaper, mobile phone, comb, keys, and a pen.

8.) Name three things you can't live without.

Mobile phone, horses and a special pillow that I have since I was a little baby.

9.) In your view, what is the level of public interest in Spain right now towards beauty pageants?

There is very little interest towards the pageant because there have been many scandals in the recent years and that has affected the image of the pageant. This year we have a new National Director and everything is changing and the press has notice a change in the management of the company. Everything will be different now.

10.) Missosology picked you as number one in its Miss Universe 2012 Hot Picks Week 1. What can you say about it?

That was incredibly amazing. I never thought that would happen to me. I have seen for many years the faces of many girls in those hotpicks ( I confess I myself is one of your followers in your web page and message board) and suddenly it is me! The face up there... I cannot be any more thankful for that honor. I will never forget that. By the way, I put that in my laptop as my screensaver! [laughs]
