Why Jakarta should be the next host of Miss Universe pageant

As of the moment there are still no clear indication as to which city will host the Miss Universe 2012 pageant. In the previous article, Missosology listed the possible cities that will host the world’s most exciting and most prestigious beauty pageant. Among of those listed, Missosology is officially backing Jakarta to be the next host of Miss Universe. Unlike Olympics however, there are no official biddings in this case. Miss Universe does not even reveal the candidate cities.

Sans lobbying, sans evaluating committee, sans poking elbows, Missosology will try to convince the world with reasons as to why Jakarta should be the next host.

1.)  Jakarta is a cosmopolitan and modern city. This is a very important aspect because a Miss Universe host must have the infrastructure in place to accommodate the fans that will eventually descend into the city. Jakarta is Indonesia’s largest and is the capital city. It can host any event large or small. And because it is modern and sophisticated, it will do its function as host of the biggest celebration of beauty with relative ease.

2.)  The amazing culture that is distinctly Indonesian is prevalent in Jakarta. Well in fact this city hosts an amalgam of cultures ranging from Buginese to Balinese. Imagine what would the Miss Universe 2012 stage will look like with all the sceneries and endemic architectures that ranges from Borobudur to Hindu temples in Bali.

3.)  If Trump is a serious businessman he should not look any further than Indonesia. Once perceived as the most corrupt in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is now the darling of investors from tourism, to real estate, to petrochemicals. If Trump, again “if”, is using Miss Universe to make inroads in a particular city’s business scene, he won’t regret picking up Jakarta.

4.)  Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim country and is home of one of the most tolerant and most harmonious people. While Islam is the predominant religion, it has never been the state religion and is officially and strongly secular. Indonesia have sent Muslim delegates to Miss Universe like Qory Sandioriva. A lot of Muslims in Indonesia view beauty pageants in a positive light. Imagine what a powerful message it would bring that the world’s most populous Muslim nation embraced and hosted Miss Universe?

5.)  Another compelling reason why Indonesia should host the Miss Universe pageant is that majority of ASEAN countries have already hosted the pageant. Twice for Thailand and the Philippines, once for Singapore and Vietnam. Malaysia and Indonesia remains the major countries in the ASEAN that are yet to host the pageant.

6.)  But the most important reason why Indonesia should host the Miss Universe 2012 pageant are the fans. Jakarta is just a stone throw away from the bastion of beauty pageant fanaticism and that includes Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and to some extent, Vietnam. Also, Indonesia is the home of a sizable Miss Universe fans. Yes, Indonesians are Miss Universe followers as evidenced by the existence of online groups such as IP pageants and Sahabat Pageant.

With all these reasons, Missosology therefore is supporting the bid of Jakarta to become the Miss Universe host. So, what do you think? Should Jakarta be the host or another city can make a better job?
