New York! New York! Desiree, together with Promociones Gloria team flew to New York earlier this year to attend a benefit dinner with Bolivian residents. They were also met by Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart and MUO's international franchise director Annette Cammer. Desiree also had a photo session with famous MUO photographer Fadil Berisha.

Miss Congeniality through & through. In most beauty contests that she participated in, which include the Miss Bolivia pageant, her fellow co-candidates would vote her for the Miss Friendship or Miss Personality awards. In 2002, she was flown to Malaysia to compete in the seventh Miss Tourism International Pageant where she took home the Miss Personality plaque.

Miss Bolivia at Miss Universe. Though the years, Bolivia has been sending brilliant exotic beauties, however, almost every single one them were overlooked. The South American nation started competing in Miss Universe in 1959 but they only penetrated the finals twice with Rosario Rico Toro placing 6th in 1990 and Olga Monica del Carpio making it as one of the semifinalists in 1964. In 1970, Bolivia's Roxana Brown won the Best National Costume award.

 

Asked why she would like to be crowned Miss Universe and how she defines Miss Universe in her own terms, she said "I would like to be crowned Miss Universe because it will be a fulfillment to the hopes of those people who believes in me & it will be the first time for a Bolivian to be crowned Miss Universe. Being Miss Universe is the fullest representation of a woman of integral beauty, image and significantly, it would expand my knowledge of culture of other countries. It is practically a beautiful reality of all things to come if you are Miss Universe." (a snippet from Desiree's unpublished 'Beauty Talks' w/ Missosology)

Desiree is strikingly beautiful. She has very expressive eyes and a slightly cleft chin that could bewitch anyone. Her gorgeous face, voluptuous body and refreshing personality are her qualities that could bring her country back on the map. Part of her appeal can also be attributed to her perceived image as a wayward beauty queen. In spite of all controversies that hounded her, expect Desiree to take center stage at the Shrine Auditorium.
