As Switzerland's beauty queen, Lauriane spends a year in the spotlight and is automatically treated like a celebrity. Just recently, she got involved in some sort of controversy concerning her "weight" & her "statements against sausages." One of her critics commented that she's too skinny. Lauriane, who is a proud vegetarian, lashed back by stating that she's absolutely healthy. She was also badly carped for declaring that she'll never eat sausages and that she condemns butchers of animals and meat-eaters. One of her goals is to come up with a new animal protection law. Showbiz gossipmongers also wallow on her relationship with ice-hockey player Michael Ngoy who plays for FC Gottéron. Lauriane confessed that she's so in love with him. They've been dating exclusively for over one and a half years.
Lauriane competed in last
year's Miss World 2005 contest held in Sanya, China. The charismatic ambassador of Switzerland was deemed as a strong contender from the Northern Europe
zone. Days before the finals of Miss World, more and more people
got
smitten of
her beauty. Although tagged as big favorite, it is surprising that Lauriane failed to gather enough votes to secure her a spot in the finals. Even the eventual winner Unnur Birna
Vilhjalmsdottir
thought that she would become their
continent's pick of the litter.
Lauriane's failure in Miss World could be blamed
on
three things: 1- Her relatively short height at
5'6." 2- Miss
World's unfair judging system. 3- She was not at her best. A beauty pageant competitor should constantly look good and glammed up! This Swiss beauty gave a somehow lackluster performance. In Miss Universe, she should learn to take full advantage of her assets. The potential is there.
Miss Photogenic. Our panel has seen hundreds of her photos and we cannot help but feel awed and humbled at the splendor captured. So far, there's no any other photographed Miss Universe 2006 contestant who can match the spellbinding grandeur of her looks. Lauriane's absolute attractiveness commands absolute interest. Her beauty is delightful, serene and eye-arresting.
Switzerland's best placement in Miss Universe ensued in 1983 when Lolita Morena placed fourth overall. From 1953-2005, the country garnered a total of 9 finalists with no winner yet. It is interesting to note that for the last two years, the Swiss beauties were successful at Miss Universe. Bianca Sissing placed in the Top 15 in 2004 while Fionna Hefti belonged as one of the 10 finalists the following year. Lauriane simply takes our breath away. She is one of those beauties that we can picture getting better and better with time. By all standards, her 5'6" height and dainty demeanor may not work for a pageant dominated by perky Latinas, but her natural charm is just too hard to resist.
