2 M I S S U N I V E R S E 2 0 0 6 F O C U S # 9 As if her successes as a model and beauty queen weren't enough, Francys embarked on her mission to take part in Miss Universe. Thanks to her agent, they found a means to fulfill this ambitious woman's desire. Francys vied in Miss Poland International- a contest established to bring together girls abroad with Polish lineage. She defeated 31 participants of the said event, which finally led to a part on the Miss Polonia (Poland) 2005 pageant. Francys flew to her motherland and was instantly considered an ace delegate for the Miss Poland 2005 title. Webmasters of several Polish sites voted for her to win the Miss Poland Universe crown. She was too old to go to Miss World 2005 (the winner of Miss Poland is assigned to Miss World, the first runner-up to Miss Universe) and therefore considered likely to become Miss Poland Universe. During the pageant finals held in Warsaw, September 2, 2005, Francys' dreams were crashed after an interview question knocked her out. She finished as one of the top 10 semifinalists and ranked 4th overall. But hopes sprang eternal. In November 2005, the Miss Polonia organization appointed Francys as the official representative of Poland to Miss Universe, denoting their high regard for her determination, beautiful qualities and her knack for speaking English. The organizers also believe that she is competitive enough to give Poland its first ever Miss Universe crown.
Asked what would set her apart, she reveals:
"The qualities I think I have that will be helpful to my participation in Miss Universe 2006 are my ability to set and fulfill my personal goals, great discipline, charisma, my stunning looks and the spirit of a fighter. All these will help me standout and make it at least as a
finalist."
Francys' magnetic green eyes remain as her best assets. Speaking of figures, she stands
5'9" tall, measures a perfect 90-60-90 and weighs 54 kg.
In 1958, Poland became the first European country to send a candidate to the Miss Universe pageant. At that time their bet Alicja Bobrowska placed as fourth runner-up. The following year, Miss Poland Zuzanna Cembrowska made it to the semifinals. But after 1959, the country failed to send their candidates to the pageant as a result of the cold war. Poland was absent in Miss Universe for 24 years and has
finally
managed to make a comeback in 1984. In 1986 and 1989, the Polish beauties Brygida Bziukiewicz & Joanna Gapinska finished as 3rd runner-up and 4th runner-up respectively. The Miss Universe crown remains elusive to the country up to this date.
It will be the second time that two Venezuelans will participate in Miss Universe: in 2002, Cynthia Lander (eventual 4th runner-up) competed with Natascha Börger who represented Germany and placed in the semifinals. Börger was Miss Yaracuy in Miss Venezuela 2000 in which she did not place. This time around, former Miss Venezuela semifinalist Francys Barraza Sudnicka (now as Miss Poland) will see action in Los Angeles along with actual Miss Venezuela, Jictzad Viña.
Without insinuation to stereotype, a beauty queen to the bone, that is who Francys Sudnicka really is. Her European gorgeous looks and the hot-blooded Latin feistiness are considered as her crossover appeal that extends beyond her qualifications. The only thing that worries us is her somewhat worn-out/mature looks. At any rate, expect this woman representing the iron curtain country to be on top of her game in the extremely competitive world of Miss Universe.
