Herein lies her best trait: those who have seen and met Mia know that she emits a
heart-warming glow from her contagious smile and extreme energy. This mega favorite doesn't stop at nothing to get what she wants and combines her spiritual peace and extroversion to create balance. Standing tall at 5'10", she has the support of the most hardcore

What would your friends say to describe you?
My friends would firstly say that I am a person that is easy to please, always smiling, loyal and anxious to learn about new things and new people. They'd definitely tell you that I'm a hard working person, that I like things to be done right and that I dream big! They would say I tend to focus on what I want and work my way until I get it. That I am also sincere, forgiving and even naοve at times. They'd say I'd do anything to make others happy or at least try to brighten up their day!
Tell something about your childhood dream.
Ever since I was a kid,
I've always wanted to do something in which I can help others. I once wanted to study medicine but my love towards the arts and show business made me realize that a beauty queen has the ability to help others and at the same time, be dedicated in other areas of the business, such as modeling and acting.
Can you share to us your beauty secret?
I don't think there are any secrets these days when it comes to beauty. Personally I exercise daily, drink a lot of water, and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.
What is your favorite part of your body & why?
My lips and the way they curl into a smile. I never really noticed that I smile a lot, but ever since I entered the pageant everyone points out that my smile is kind of contagious, and since
it's my way of opening myself to people, I like to smile a lot and that's on purpose.
What's inside your bag right now?
I have my wallet, my cell phone, which I carry with me at all times since it also has a built-in camera in which I can save special moments, some make up, my Ipod, a book, and my keys.
How
would
you
define
"beauty?"
For me, beauty is the reflection of what we have in our souls. Beauty is that heavenly thing, not always physical, that impacts everyone we relate with. Beauty is that
"angel" we have in our lives.
What
were
your reasons for joining
the
Miss
Republica
Dominicana
pageant?
Joining the Miss Dominican Republic pageant was something I've always dreamt of doing, but the most important reason for joining was my need to prove myself, that I could achieve any goal I propose myself with faith and dedication.
How were you elected as
Miss
Dominican
Republic
Universe? Describe the judging process.
To begin with, 21 candidates are drawn out from a casting. This year, we participated in two activities before being officially evaluated by the juries. We were first presented to the press and this was carried out in a restaurant along the beach, then there was a fantasy costume parade which took place in a colonial zone that was intensified with color and typical rhythms. We exchanged comments and impressions with the press and it was recorded for the benefit of the juries for the final and preliminary events. It was completed for them to know more about us. In the preliminaries, we paraded in bathing suits and long gowns while the judges observed our runway skills and sophistication. After this, we were evaluated by the same juries in an interview round where they asked us on different aspects of our lives, the provinces that we represent and our knowledge on what is happening in our country and outside the world. During the final night of the contest, a different set of judges evaluated us on the same aspects of runway, fitness and intellect. To summarize, it was a night that was totally magical for me.
What do you think are your qualities that helped you earn the
judges' approval & the crown?
My sympathy and honesty. I'm a very pure person at heart and I like others to get to know the real me, not a stereotype of what's supposed to be underneath the crown. I try to combine my inner peace with my extroversion, to always create a balance on my relations with others.
Tell us about your preparations for the Miss Universe contest.
I've gone through a very strict regime for the contest. I've been following a diet to maintain my weight and exercised a lot to tone my body. I took acting, singing and dancing lessons, as well as perfected my French and learned about general culture.
Can you tell something that is so interesting or unique about you?
I'm sort of a clean freak! I tend to organize my room even when
it's already organized. I like changing my furniture almost every month and whenever I'm angry, mad or confused, I almost unconsciously start organizing everything in the house.
Any beauty queen/s that you really admire? Why?
I don't know if this is because I got to personally interact with her, but I really admire Natalie Glebova our actual Miss Universe. She radiates this natural peace and calmness as well as a sympathy and natural beauty that you don't really perceive in all beauty queens. I admire her magical way to always look
not
just
as Miss Universe but also
a girl you can just approach and say "hello!"
Describe your fashion sense and style.
I'm a very classic girl, and I try to combine some fashion details with whatever I'm wearing. I like to always look fresh and graceful. But
what's very unique about my fashion statement is that whatever it is I'm wearing, it all depends down to my shoes! I am totally in love with shoes and it is the first piece I choose before picking out my clothes so everything starts with the shoes I want to wear during the day.
How
will you describe your country to your co-candidates at Miss Universe?
As a complete package! My country does not only have the most beautiful, colorful and sunny beaches but also the most relaxing, peaceful, serene fields and mountains. It's the perfect mixture between modern technology and our ancient customs. In my country, you'll find the warmest people who always have a helping hand. My country is all about culture, flavor, color, traditions, happiness and love!
What is your opinion on
activists' point of view that exposure of too much skin in the swimsuit competition disrespects women?
Candidates to any beauty pageant have first to remember that it is a beauty pageant, and an important aspect of it is to be judged on our inner and outer beauty, for which a swimsuit is most appropriate. In my opinion, it is the way a candidate's actions and the ability she handles herself that will gain her respect, whether she's wearing an evening gown or a swimsuit.
Supposed there is a Genie who happens to be mad at you for a wrong deed committed and his punishment is to turn you into an animal for a year. You can't plead to alter his decision but you get to decide what type of
animal you would become, what creature would you choose and why?
A butterfly.
I've always admired how something so
"weird" can turn into such beauty. I'd rather turn into a butterfly because for me it is a symbol of beauty, elegance, and freedom.
If it were your last day on earth, what would you eat & why?
It's not really what I eat, but with whom I eat it. I'd eat dirt as long as I can spend my last day
with the ones I love.
Do you have a motto or personal quote that you live by?
If God is with me, who is against me? This phrase is what gives me the strength and faith that everything that happens to me is God's will, and whenever I'm in a difficult situation or something that I don't want is about to happen, I always think, "If God is with me, who is against me?" and I let His will be done.
Do you think winning a beauty pageant is really
important? Tell us about your responsibilities as
Miss
Dominican
Republic
Universe titleholder.
Of course! Not only is the pageant a platform for all the girls who participate to enter the world of show
business, it is also a way in which we can help members of our societies by joining organizations who have more knowledge and experience in the social areas we want to work with. As Miss Dominican Republic,
I have the responsibility of promoting my country internationally and serve as collaborator to organizations that work for the benefit of the society.
Why do you want do be crowned Miss Universe and how would you define the title in your own terms?
For me, Miss Universe is a hand that helps others and brings them a bit of joy and faith. She's also an ambassador of women's beauty and graciousness. My major reason to be crowned as Miss Universe is bringing the joy and pride of a 2nd Dominican Miss Universe to my
countrymen.
What should pageant experts, your fellowmen, fans and beauty watchers expect from Miss
Dominican
Republic
at Miss Universe 2006 pageant?
They should expect a girl who will work hard, with all her heart and dedication to make them proud and to promote very dearly and proudly the Dominican Republic and its beauties.
