Canada's Natalie Glebova is earning
early buzz from beauty-watchers because of her characteristics that
scream sexy. Combined with a killer body regularly treated by yoga and
a set of piercing blue eyes, Natalie shows no signs of fading from the
public interest. Know more about this motivational speaker in this special
interview. Will the Miss Universe pageant be her first claim to
universal fame?
•
What three words best describe you and why?
DRIVEN, DEDICATED, AND PASSIONATE. At an early age, I have learned the
discipline that comes from being involved in sports and learning how
to play a musical instrument. I have many passions in life, that
includes music and sports.
• What was your childhood dream?
My childhood career goal was to be a business woman. Since
kindergarten, I remember pretending to be a business woman working in
a high-rise building and walking with a brief case.
•
What factors attracted you to join a beauty contest? Why did you
decide to join the Miss Universe Canada pageant?
I entered the pageant to challenge myself. I was very shy growing up
and the challenge was to overcome shyness. I also wanted to experience
the opportunity of representing Canada in the international arena.
This country has been so good to me that I wanted to share it with
others.
•
What is your impression on beauty contests prior to participating in
one?
I always thought very highly of all the contestants in beauty pageants
as I didn't know if I could have the courage to enter them. Once I
entered, I realize that most of the participants are bright, ambitious
and beautiful young women. I always thought that it is an honor to
compete in a beauty pageant because it requires certain qualities such
as self-confidence, intelligence and grace.
•
Can you put in the picture the judging process that you went
through as a contestant of Miss Universe Canada?
The judging process in Miss Universe Canada is exactly the same as the
judging process in Miss Universe. The scores come from personality
interviews, evening gown presentation, swimsuit presentation, and
final question. To start off, there are 50 contests from all over
Canada, with aspirants competing in a preliminary competition, and then the field gets
narrowed down to 15 semi-finalists. Those 15 semi-finalists compete on
the final night of the competition.
• What do you think are your qualities that made you win the Miss
Universe Canada 2005 title? Self confidence is probably the most
important quality to have when competing in any contest. I believe
having self confidence helped me in competing with so many amazing
young women.
•
Is winning a beauty pageant important? Tell us about your responsibilities
as Miss Universe Canada.
Winning a pageant is only as important as you want it to be. As Miss
Universe Canada, I have the responsibility of fulfilling two
different roles during my year of reign. The first role of Miss
Universe Canada is to represent Canada on an international level in
a confident, graceful and respectful manner. I will soon be leaving
for Miss Universe 2005, where I will have the opportunity to
showcase the qualities and characteristics of Canada to the
rest
of the world! I take great pride in knowing that I have been given
the fortune of placing Canada in a global spotlight during the Miss
Universe competition.
The
second role of Miss Universe Canada is carried out during the
remaining eleven months surrounding the Miss Universe pageant. The
Miss Universe Canada Organization allows me voice my own opinions
and implement my own ideas during this portion of my reign. One of
my interests has been speaking to students at the community level.
Given that motivational speaking has become a passion of mine, I
address students on a number of issues since winning my title. I
intend to represent this country to the best of my ability not only
during the Miss Universe pageant, but also throughout my entire
reign as Miss Universe Canada 2005!
•
What is your opinion on activists' point of view that exposure of too
much skin in the swimsuit competition disrespects women?
I don't believe the swimsuit competition is disrespectful to women
because it is our own choice to do so. We make our decision to enter
beauty pageants that showcase the importance of physical fitness and
active lifestyle.
•
What are your passions in life?
My two passions in life are music and sports. I am a classical
pianist having studied piano in a music school, and have been
playing for over 15 years. I also love rhythmic gymnastics and
figure skating. I won several regional gymnastics competitions, and
continue to be involved in fitness.
•
Can you tell something that is so interesting about you?
In addition to being a classical pianist, I like composing my own
music.
•
How are you preparing yourself for the Miss Universe beauty pageant?
Besides going to the gym regularly, I am working with a wonderful
team of professionals in the fashion, runway, interviewing,
etiquette, hair and make-up industries. I am also taking yoga
classes to help me relax and be in touch with my inner self.
•
How will you describe your country to your co-candidates at Miss
Universe?
I would describe Canada as a land of equal opportunities, tolerance
to differences and a beautiful mosaic of cultures. In Toronto alone,
we have over 100 languages spoken and the same number of religions
practiced.
•
What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
I went bungee jumping with my friend. The feeling of free-falling
was amazing!
•
How would you define "love"?
You know you love someone if you are willing to do anything for that
person.
•
Do you have a motto or personal quote that you live by?
I have three:
"Believe in yourself and you can achieve anything".
"Treat others the way you want to be treated"
"Everything in life happens for a reason"
•
What is your biggest dream in life?
My biggest dream in life is to own my own company in the PR or
Marketing field AND I would also love to have a wonderful family. I
guess I want it all... Career and family!!!
•
