Serbia & Montenegro's bet in the Miss Universe 2005 pageant has several things going for her to get the approval of any judging panel. Jelena Mandic has the drive and she exudes an incredibly sensual vibe. As for intellect, she's got a great deal to spare. Missosology introduces to the world a big-eyed beauty whose aim is to change the political image of her country.

What three words best describe you & why?
Curiosity, determination and positive spirit. My curiosity makes me learn more about life itself. I firmly believe that by doing many different things, I can have a better outlook on my possibilities and desires. It is a very important consideration because through our curiosities about life, we are able to fully discover & learn a lot about ourselves. Determination paves the way to triumphs & success. A positive spirit is also very important thing for me because without it, I cannot start a new day with a smile, a new hope and positive energy.

What was your childhood dream?
One of my childhood dreams was to become a beautiful lady because I was not so pretty when I was little. In addition, I wanted to become a famous model and to participate on a worldwide beauty pageant. I can freely say that a part of my dreams came true. Now that my future is ahead of me, I think I'll easily accomplish the rest of my dreams.

What factors attracted you to join a beauty contest? Why did you decide to join the Miss Serbia & Montenegro Universe pageant?
There were many side motives, but the main reason was the scholarship for my MD studies abroad and of course the privilege of becoming a beauty Ambassadress of my country - Serbia & Montenegro.

What is your impression on beauty contests prior to participating in one?
I was just a viewer back then and I was so intrigued of becoming a participant. I felt that these contests are giving new energy for women and it also show new roads toward success. I wanted to become a Beauty Ambassadress by making the most out of my God-given beauty. I believe that beauty is a gift from God.

Can you put in the picture the judging process that you went through as a contestant of Miss Miss Serbia & Montenegro Universe pageant?
We were in Greece and Macedonia for one month for official preparations for the Miss Serbia & Montenegro 2004 Pageant. Together with us were the official Miss Yu Company team consisted of all top specialists like
photographers, stylists, choreographers, hairdressers & makeup artists. All throughout that period, the finalists were observed and evaluated. That was the first part of judging process. The second part of judging process took place when we returned to Belgrade three days before the final night. We had an official interview with the 12-jury members. After that interview, the jury members selected the Top 10 finalists. We were only informed about that course of action during the final night. The third judging process ensued during the finals of Miss SCG 2004 pageant where the jury members voted for the Top 5 finalists.

What do you think are your qualities that made you win the Miss Miss Serbia & Montenegro Universe pageant 2004 title?
I don't like to talk too much about my qualities, I leave that to others. I was always told that my best qualities are my education, strong personality, charisma and charm.

Is winning a beauty pageant important? Tell us about your responsibilities as Miss Serbia & Montenegro.
It is important for me because the competition is not only about beauty, it also includes humanitarian work and political activities that contributes to my future goals. It is also a best way to promote yourself and your
country, and be remembered by many people. Beauty and inner spirit are powers that should be used for good causes.

What is your opinion on activists' point of view that exposure of too much skin in the swimsuit competition disrespects women?
I don't think that it disrespects woman because respect has nothing to do with swimsuits and clothes. People who are looking at a woman as an object are the ones who are not respecting her. Respect is gained in many ways. When you respect a woman, you also respect her personality in the first place. A woman who loves her body doesn't have a problem of showing it.

What are your passions in life?
The fashion and media have always been great parts of my passions in life. The two are closely connected to my future. My other passions include belly dancing, classic and Latin dances, and photography. During my free time, I also dedicate myself to pottery and interior design.

Can you tell something that is so interesting about you?
I am a very optimistic person. It is always my pleasure to help my friends who would approach me for advices. All my friends say that as long as they are with me, they feel protected. They also feel that nothing bad can happen to them because they believe that I have a lucky star.

How are you preparing yourself for the Miss Universe beauty pageant?
Aside from daily workouts, I am trying as much as possible to learn about the different cultures and countries where my co-candidates are coming from. I would like to have good interaction with all the girls, and find out more from them about differences in our cultures. At this moment, I also read a book about Donald Trump and his success.

How will you describe your country to your co-candidates at Miss Universe?
I come from a country which is considered as a connection of all roads leading from west to east and vice-versa. We are situated at the heart of Europe. It is a small country with a long history. The people have a strong spirit and a good sense of humor. It is a country that possesses beautiful nature, healthy water and fresh air. My nation, especially its women, is very beautiful. You all have my invitation to come and visit Serbia & Montenegro. You're assured that these words come from me. (smiles...)

How would you define "love"?
We are all results of love and passion. Love is a kind of happiness that we are supposed to share to one another. There is no point of living without love.

Do you have a motto or personal quote that you live by?
'Omnia mea mecum porto.' It is a quote said by an ancient Greek philosopher. It conveys that when the enemy occupied his town, everybody was running with their material stuff, only he did not bring anything with him. When they asked him why, he said 'Omnia mea mecum porto.' which means: with my knowledge, all things are carried with me.

What is your biggest dream in life?
At this moment, it is not that difficult to find out what my biggest dream is because I am focused on the Miss Universe competition. But big dreams are yet to come, because when you achieve one dream, another one comes along. My first goal is to focus on my future work in the Government. My MD studies deals with the European Law. One of my goals is to change the political image of my country and to show to the world the REAL face of Serbia & Montenegro.

Finally, leave a message to your fans, supporters & our readers.
I would like to thank to all my fans for the letters and great messages I have received. The support means a lot to me. I will not disappoint you, I will do my best to be noticed among all these beautiful women from all the universe. With your help, my dreams shall come true. Keep sending me positive vibes!!!
