No Miss Sweden at Miss Universe 2005!

When the top Scandinavian swimwear company owned by Panos Emporio purchased the rights to the Miss Sweden pageant from TV3 last year, their organization intended to bring the contest back to its original distinguished status. Harassment from feminist organizations, however, forced the company to put the competition on hold. This has led to the fact that Sweden will not send a contestant to the Miss Universe pageant for the first time in more than 50 years!

Based from an article published by PRWEB, Panos Emporio announced in August of last year that the new plans for the competition would be presented during the fall, but after having been harassed by feminist organizations the decision to wait was made. "Feminists forced me to cancel. I was surprised that, in a country as far developed and as liberated as Sweden, women's rights movements receive so much attention in the media regarding an issue like this," says Panos Papadopoulos, CEO of the company. At first he saw the response as negative, but then he realized that Sweden now has the chance to create something new and astonishing in the field of beauty contests, and become a role model for others to follow.

"I am the kind of person to listen to the opinions of others in our society, and I show humility towards them," Panos continues. "Therefore the contest will rest for a year for us to have enough time to look into the possibilities of creating something new that will take Miss Sweden to a whole new level. "The future of the contest depends on whether I can create a program that is accepted by most people in our society. It is important to create a contest that emphasizes the dignity as well as the beauty of the woman", he ends.

This means that in 2005 Sweden will not send a contestant to the Miss Universe pageant for the first time. Sweden is one of the very few countries that have never failed to participate in the contest. Special thanks to Inger Hansson for the news.

On Miss Sweden Universe 2005

Panos Emporio, Miss Universe franchise-holder of Sweden, will try to hold a pageant this year. He bought the rights to Miss Sweden in 2004 with the intentions of making it an important event. He also aims of bringing about the same dignity to the Miss Sweden pageant as the other national beauty pageants in other countries. Panos Emporio owns the leading Fashion House in Sweden that specializes in beachwear.

This is also to falsify earlier reports that Emporio could not afford the needed fees to support the Miss Sweden pageant. He rebutted his former announcement by declaring through a newsletter that the company shall consider holding a pageant after receiving several calls, letters and emails from people concerning the withdrawal of a Swedish delegate to this year's edition of the Miss Universe pageant.

To understand further the scenario, here's a latest newsletter from Sweden:
After Panos Emporio announced last week that the Miss Sweden pageant had been "put on ice," a great number of people have contacted the company to tell how sorry they are about this decision. Many have stated that Sweden needs the pageant, and there have been those who have been critical about the decision. During the last week, we have realized that there is a big support coming from people for this pageant.

The decision to put this very successful historical pageant on ice have been discussed in the media for weeks, and has shown that it is an issue that affects many locals. A great number of people have also contacted us to give their support, asking to let the tradition live on.

"We are now investigating if we can find a good way for the pageant to persist, and we will put much effort into this in the nearest future. With all positive forces, it only shows that there are strong hopes for the Miss Sweden pageant to live on", says the MD of the company, Panos Papadopoulos.
