This year's Miss Bahamas Universe Sacha Scott is quite unlike the usual Miss Bahamas. She sports a golden hair and fair skin that majority of Bahamians don't share. But this is not a problem of course for multicultural Bahamas, according to Sacha. Bahamas is a nation that embrace diversity. Here, she shares her hopes and dreams to Missosology.Org and expressed how she is proud of representing her small nation.

Please tell us about yourself, where you grew up and your hobbies.

I grew up in Nassau, Bahamas where my childhood consisted of playing on pink sand beaches and swimming in the turquoise seas. I am an adventurous and passionate person. I love to travel and learn about other cultures, especially, their art, architecture, cuisine, and the history behind it all. Some of my hobbies include: scuba-diving, reading, golf, travelling, cooking, and working on projects with my community.

What are your current preparations for Miss Universe 2008?

Currently I spend a lot of time in my community and with my charities focusing on my platform which is “our youth generation and our ecosystem”. As an ambassador for my country I feel it is very important to be involved in these platforms on both a local and national level. I also maintain a balanced diet and exercise regularly with a personal trainer. The remainder of my time is used gathering all the materials needed for Miss Universe, such as, designing my evening gown and other necessities. I tend to be a perfectionist and very detailed so I am spending a lot of time organizing each element of my trip!

Eighty-five percent of Bahamians are of African heritage. How does it feel to represent Bahamas at Miss Universe?

It is an honor to represent the country I was born in. The Bahamas is a multicultural nation where every heritage is embraced. Whether we are of African descent, Asian descent, Indian descent, European descent et al, we are all equally Bahamian and I stand at one with my country.

Could you tell us about your experiences during the Miss Bahamas contest?

The Miss Bahamas contest was an amazing experience. Not only did this give me the opportunity to learn even more about my country, but I learned a lot more about myself. I overcame hurdles, answered difficult yet profound questions, and made great friends. One of my favorite experiences is when we visited dolphin encounters and were able to watch their tricks and play with them.

Have you participated in other beauty contests before Miss Bahamas?

No. Miss Bahamas Universe was my first pageant.

How would you describe Bahamas to your fellow contestants?

The Bahamas is much more than a set of islands. We have over 700 islands and cays where no two are alike. We have sparkling white and pink sand beaches. Our water is pristine and varies between hues of turquoise and emerald green. Though, what really highlights the Bahamas are the people. Bahamians are very unique. We have rich personalities that blend humor, kindness, tranquility, and boldness. The Bahamian way of living is holistic and simple. We have pride for our nation, people and natural resources. We stress the importance of family and happiness and to make the most of each day. Furthermore, our cuisine cannot be compared, especially, our native dish: the conch. In addition, it is worth noting all the activities available, including: diving, snorkeling, sailing, boating, parasailing, jet-skiing, golf, horseback riding, and of course basking in the sun.

What are the things in your bag that you can’t live without?

My iphone, organizer, lip gloss, mints, perfume, hair brush, and hand moisturizer.

Do you think that beauty pageants run in collision course with feminists' views?

No. I do not because feminism is defined as, “of or relating to or advocating equal rights for women,”. Beauty pageants are celebrating us as women and the independence and equality we have established. Beauty pageants support the dedication, commitment and goals of the young lady coupled with the corporate conscious commitment we believe in. It embraces the feminine strength, honors of choices and supports our goals without losing sight of universal needs.

What qualities do you think will enable you to shine at Miss Universe 2008?

My unique personality, diversity of culture, independent nature yet strong advocate of corporate culture commitments and my belief that together we can all make a difference to our universe.

Lastly, what is your message to the visitors of Missosology.Org?

My message is to never lose sight of your dreams and ambitions, only you are the judge of yourself, your goals, and your life. Make most of what matters to you and continue to climb new heights. Let’s take pride and respect in ourselves and in our universe and remember each choice is an opportunity!
