MORE IMPORTANT NOTES

The representatives for Miss Universe from 1952 until 1963 were not handpicked by Bb. Pilipinas. Isabel Rodriguez was Miss Benevolence that time when she replaced the Miss Philippines titleholder Editha Nakpil. Nakpil forfeited her right to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. It is also important to note that Carmen "Chuchay" Tuason, Miss Philippines 1958, did not compete in the Miss Universe pageant because of her family's disapproval of the swimsuit portion. Miss Philippines 1959, Christina Matias, also forfeited her right to represent the country because of her commitments as member of the bayanihan dance troupe. Her group was on a world tour during that time.

The first winner of Miss Republic of the Philippines was Liza Miro. Mr. Philippines (a body building competition) was also named in the same pageant. It was the first pageant to combine Mr. & Ms. Philippines. The three girls before Liza Miro were chosen by a different group of people. Maita's pageant, for example, assembled all the top models in the country, including the married ones, and picked 10 eligible girls.

Miss International representatives of the Philippines were chosen by Bb. Pilipinas starting in 1968 in a seperate pageant to choose Miss Philippines. In 1969, BPCI decided to choose the two queens. Bb. Pilipinas International title started in 1972, prior to that, the representative for Miss International was called Miss Philippines, whilst Bb. Pilipinas was the title given to the representative for Miss Universe. In 1965, the organizers of Miss Philippines appointed Bb. Pilipinas 1st Runner-up Isabel Santos as the nation's bet to Miss International because they could not find anyone suitable to succeed Gemma Cruz.
