:: Alfredo Barraza designed
Zorayda Ruth
Andam’s ritzy off-white gown that is studded with sequins and
complemented with a see-through side-slit. It was inspired through Audrey
Hepburn's fashion sense.
::
Nina Ricci Alagao, herself,
argued that the gold, backless halter gown did not make an impression to
her and she thought that it needed last minute adjustments. Unfortunately,
it was too late and she had to go on with the Miss Universe 2000
preliminaries by any means. Alfredo Barraza, an all-important Colombian
designer and close friend of Stella Araneta, personalized the gown with a
touch Greek mythology. (more of it in
the Nina Ricci
Alagao Story)
:: Local designer Larry Espinosa designed the
halter corset gown of
Jewel May Lobaton for Miss Universe 1998
Pageant. Espinosa was the same designer responsible for Jewel's Best in
Long Gown triumph in Bb. Pilipinas 1998.
::
Geraldine Pebbles
Asis donned a spectacular Louie Mamengo creation during the finals of
Miss Universe 1987 pageant. She earned 8.915 here and ranked 4th, beating
top favorites Miss Puerto Rico Laurie Simpson and Miss Venezuela Ines
Rodriguez in the evening gown competition. Pebbles was also wearing the
very same gown when she was crowned as Bb. Pilipinas Universe. It also won
her the Best in Gown award in her local stint. Her very Oriental gown
blended well on the stage setting although many argued that her fresh
getup during the preliminaries was sophisticated enough to put her in the
highest position possible.
:: Among the local designers in charge
of Filipina delegates’ gowns are Auggie Cordero, Aureo Alonzo, Larry
Espinosa, Inno Sotto, Patis Tesoro, Pepito Albert, Pitoy Moreno, Ben
Farrales and more.
