MRS. Philippines 2006 Maricarl Tolosa Cabel won first runner-up honors at the 2006 Mrs. Globe Pageant held in Rancho Mirage, California last July 22.

Cabel, 29, consistently displayed poise and regal bearing in her national costume, swimsuit and long gown to stand out from among 32 married contestants from around the world. She also bagged the Mrs. of the Year special award and placed second in the talent competition. She wore a beige terno and white evening gown with a low neckline during the preliminaries, both creations of Jonti and Nicky Martinez of Galatea.

Maricarl's second-place finish is the highest by a Filipina candidate in Mrs. Globe. Last year, 2002 Mutya ng Pilipinas and Miss Asia Pacific 3rd runner-up Mirian Chui represented the Philippines, also in Rancho Mirage, and emerged as fourth runner-up. Maricarl was sent to the pageant by Philippine Modeling Agency's Ovette Ricalde, the local licensee for the US-based tilt.

Mrs. Greece, Maria Daphne "Mada" Tsagias-Papadakos, won the coveted Mrs. Globe 2006 crown and succeeded Venezuela's Rosa Terenzio, last year's winner. Mada, who was a professional runway model in Athens many years back, became her country's third winner in the 11-year history of the international beauty competition. Previous winners from Greece were: Anthy Privolous in 1997 and Lila Karakitsakis in 2003.
